It’s November!
This year has passed quickly. Here in the northeast we are reminded of the passage of time by the change in seasons and the changing of the clocks. Man, does it get dark early here once we turn the clocks back for daylight savings!
Speaking of changes . . . . .do things look a little different around here?
My new site has *finally* gone live.
I am so excited, I could shout from the rooftops!
This site has been over a year in the making. My path was not smooth or direct. In August of 2017 I hired a highly recommended and skilled web designer. We started off on the right foot. But, somewhere along the way our separate visions and ideas for the site hit a fork in the road. It seemed the deeper we dug in, the less we agreed on. It was surprisingly emotional and beyond frustrating. Distraught, I terminated our contract. Disappointed, weary and a bit disillusioned by the whole turn of events, I decided to hit pause and do some soul searching. It was a real wake up call and a reminder to stay true to who I am. I dug down deep to find the emotional strength and clarity I needed to start again. Soon after, the perfect web designer for me fell in my lap.
This new journey started in June and ended a few short weeks ago. Which brings me back to the rooftop.
Sometimes you need to walk away from a situation that is not working even if that means that an unknown future awaits.
Our card this month is the Eight of Cups. Read on.
Eights are about movement, moving on, expanding, re-evaluation, cause and effect and prioritizing.
The suit of Cups is about emotions, creativity, the subconscious and love.
Traditional meanings associated with the Eight of Cups are walking away, withdrawal, abandonment, disappointment, soul searching and finding yourself or your “calling”.
I often see this card as a somewhat secretive shedding of a skin. Plans may have been in place for a while, but, not many have been in the know. The plan is for a quiet and direct departure. Maybe you are moving, leaving a job, making a new career choice or leaving a relationship? As this move becomes a reality, daily life may shift. People you are used to seeing and speaking to daily may be seeing and hearing from you less. This is where the cups emotional element comes into play. When those who are not moving to the next level with you and joining you on this new adventure realize they are being left behind, it can be a mix of emotions on both sides. Happiness and excitement for you may turn into something else entirely.
In the Eight of Cups we learn that nothing in life is permanent. It’s possible you’ve lost interest in something in your life that once held great importance. Nothing necessarily bad has happened, it’s just that things have changed. Sooner or later, everything slips away. Or, we slip away from it. Sometimes we take things in our lives for granted. We expect things, people, life and situations to stay the same. But, the truth is that very little stays the same.
Eight is the number of Strength, and indicates courage.
Another interpretation can be a feeling that something is missing. It is possible that you have lost something or someone very near and dear to your heart. Or, this can show up as a feeling, as in a space or void has appeared and you are now prompted to figure out exactly what this is. This can be triggered by something such as a betrayal, loss, milestone birthday or unexpected incident. In this case, the Eight of Cups acts as a ‘wake up call’.
The Eight of Cups is concerned about you. It is *not* concerned with the ways you have made others happy or taken care of their needs. The Eight of Cups is flat out asking: Are you happy? Do you feel fulfilled? Is this enough? Do you want more? And then challenges you to dive deep to find the answers.
Let’s flip this inward turning card to a new perspective and see it from the outside. Are looking for a new look or a change in your style – Lady Gaga is an excellent example. Haircut? New clothes? Ready to head back to the gym? Add your own! It’s time to be your own person, inside and out!
Let’s visit the Eight of Cups:
Questions to consider: What does it mean for you to shed a skin? What is expanding? Who is your priority? How has walking away strengthened you? How do you protect yourself? What is missing? What is changing? What do you keep hidden? How can you take control? What is your biggest challenge? What is your calling? What external change can you claim as authentically YOU? Have you seen A Star is Born??
Everyone handles change differently.
Whether challenging or empowering, is important to remember that there is value in each of our experiences. This is a moment of transition, and it will pass.
Your gift in this adversity is an invitation to ask yourself what you truly want and how you want to feel.
My invitation to you is to join me on that metaphorical rooftop.
Shed that skin.
Release what is no longer working for you.
You may be surprised to find out how strong and courageous you truly are.
