This week, we explore tarot and symbolism. But first, if you missed last week’s post, Everything Happens For You, check it out here. Now, it’s time to dive deeper into the Four of Cups – Grass Roots. What are you noticing? Appreciating the present moment instead of daydreaming (and looking backward) has brought so much to light this week. Literally. In the U.S., the clocks spring ahead an hour each year, bringing longer days, more light, and a big feeling of relief that you’ve officially graduated winter. Yes, a valuable hour of sleep is lost, AND it happens on a Sunday, a great day to take a nap!
Tarot and Symbolism – A Picture is Worth a Thousand Words
I agree! Notice how the young man leans against the tree as he sits on a grassy patch of earth. This nature scene says so much about how tarot and symbolism can be quite literal. Trees with their roots on display indicate grounding. So when you’re rooted, you can connect with what’s above. The young man in the Four of Cups can rely on the stability of the earth beneath him to connect with himself in the present moment to regain his confidence and optimism about the future.
He’s sitting on a vibrant green grassy hill, indicating newness, freshness, and youth. Green, along with the image of a boy, represents immaturity but also growth—like the seed not yet ready to poke its head above the ground. Again, with the longer days, this card’s timing is perfect!
The light blue sky behind and around him indicates the kind of peace he feels knowing he’s going to emerge soon from the winter of his discontent, past disillusionment, and apathy, and into appreciating his now. How long will he stay rooted here? Well, that’s up to him, but what’s clear is that nature is offering him the kind of support and shelter that leads to inner peace. His connection to nature reminds you that all its newness is also available to you.
This Week’s Challenge
As you sit on your metaphorical tree roots, ask yourself:
- How do I ground myself?
- How am I reattaching to my roots?
- Am I getting to the root of an issue? How?
- (Like the season), how am I growing, blossoming, and changing right now?
When you allow yourself to witness current gifts by staying rooted in the present, you’re better able to focus on all that’s good in your life. This week, I ask you to focus on that fourth golden cup to better define what’s right there in front of you that you might not be seeing yet. Whatever that is, it’s yours for the taking!
Share with me how you’ve decided to live in the moment this week. It can be in ways that ground you, connect you, and bring you a greater sense of peace.
I’ll be back next week with the final post in this series, The Castle, where we’ll explore how you can choose to find the silver lining in your current situation.
Ever upward!
