Is it me, or did you blink, and it’s suddenly September? As you enter the final carefree days of summer and round the corner that is Labor Day, the Two of Pentacles appears to escort us towards our transition into fall.
The Two of Pentacles represent the earth element, and it’s all about finding balance, changing values, and finding stability. Are you trying to do too many things at once? We’re all multi-taskers . . . until (we realize that) we’re not. As you enter September—and that back-to-school feeling and mindset that some of us never outgrow—it’s time to learn to go with the flow. So let’s dig in and get to the root of what’s happening here.
The Opposite of Passive
The Two of Pentacles indicates a whirlwind of activity and shows up to remind you to be flexible. Looking at the image, we see a young man hopping from foot to foot, trying to juggle two pentacles within a huge green lemniscate or infinity symbol. As this guy hops from one foot to the other, you’re witnessing an illustration of the balancing act of life. And if you look closely, you can see this theme seen a few different ways within the card.
Not only is he looking for equilibrium at his feet and between the pentacles, but the ship on top of the waves behind him gives off a similar vibe of riding the ups and downs of the waves of life. In this image, you are the ship that symbolizes resilience or your ability to stay afloat no matter what.
Another important clue lies in this card’s green infinity loop. Notice that it’s slack rather than taut. Normally this bright and energy-filled symbol radiates unlimited potential. But here, on its quest for equilibrium, it’s overstretched and out of shape as it searches for a better life balance. We also see that the man’s standing on an empty gray stage. The ‘stage card’ reminds you that this may be an act, a performance for show. The message is that things may not always be what they seem on the surface.
It’s Your Show
As you move forward in your search for a greater life balance—the power to write the script of your life is yours! It’s your show! The Two of Pentacles tells you to embrace writing or rewriting your own script as you go forward into a new season of life. Balancing pleasure and responsibility are the keys to success in life. This week, contemplate the imbalance(s) in your life and consider how it serves you. Or not. You may be surprised by your own observations!
Next week, I’ll discuss why this card and its themes have come up. In the meantime, understand that patience and confidence in yourself will lead you to find your rhythm and ultimately adjust to a happier life balance.
And to all (like me) with the end of summer blues, I quote my long-time favorite author, Dr. Seuss, “Don’t cry because it’s over; smile because it happened.”
