Welcome to our last blog of the September series, Two of Pentacles – Riding the Waves. I hope you tried my tarot coach approach exercise in last week’s message and that it brought you additional (perhaps revelatory) personal insights. If not, storytelling is another excellent way to learn. This week, I’m sharing the story of my client who found resilience after being knocked off balance as she attempted to juggle competing areas of her life.
Carol’s Story
Carol is a successful solopreneur and business owner. She decided to take a chance and move from one state—where she has a successful business track record of referred and repeat clients—to a new state where she would start from scratch.
While moving was something she’d considered for a while, Carol’s final decision was prompted by feeling disconnected, isolated, and out of balance during Covid. Although financially successful in her current location, she lacked a strong community connection, good friends/family nearby, and hobbies/clubs to tie her to the area.
Energized and excited about laying down roots in a new and much friendlier environment, Carol realized that there was going to be a gap between business in her old location and securing new clients and consistent work in her new one. And as a talented creative, and determined professional, she was confident things would work out financially and socially.
Inner Resilience
After her move, Carol regrouped quickly and hit the ground running. Even so, she came up against a few unexpected challenges. First, expensive housing due to high demand required more time to look for a place that fit her budget and felt like home. And while she was anxious to make faster progress, she also understood that creating a pipeline for new business required a lot of foundation building and groundwork. Jobs did not automatically drop into her lap. How long would it be until she landed her first client?
On the flip side, the opportunity to meet new and like-minded friends was exactly as she’d hoped. The balancing act of work and play seemed to be the reverse of what she’d experienced in her former location. Social opportunities were plentiful, and Carol saw major improvements in her personal life. Happy that she followed her intuition, knowing that moving was her best course of action, Carol’s main concern was her finances and securing a successful future for her business.
Eventually, after weathering a bit of a dry spell, jobs began to trickle in as her networking, multitasking, and willingness to be resourceful and adaptable paid off. After months of riding some rough waters, Carol saw the benefits of her inner resilience.
In moving from one unbalanced situation to another unbalanced situation, Carol eventually provided herself with greater balance. Now able to float securely like a boat on the waves that life threw at her by keeping the right mindset and trusting her intuition (red hat), the universe (infinity/lemniscate symbol) served her and her business well.
How Are Your Juggling Skills?
The truth is that whether your story is similar to Carol’s or completely different, in life, there are always going to be waves. The Two of Pentacles encourages you to swim with the tide, not against it. Let the unexpected twists and turns of life roll off your back, or use them to find your center while knowing you’re ready to juggle the ups and downs with grace and ease!
