Hello September!
How do you define strength?
Is it powerful legs or strong arms? Maybe.
Or, Is it something more internal?
The Strength card shows us a new approach to control, responsibility and mindfulness.
The Strength card represents the astrological sign of Leo (the lion). For those of us who have a charismatic and extroverted Leo in our lives, it might be surprising to find that one of the life lessons of a Leo is to find inner strength. That outwardly brave and bold Leo does – on the inside – sometimes feel lacking in confidence and insecure. How long did it take for the cowardly lion from the Wizard of Oz to come to mind? He is a perfect example . . . with a perfectly positive outcome!
The truth is that Leo’s do have great inner strength, it is the believing in yourself and putting yourself to the test part that needs a little time at the grit and tenacity gym.
The Strength card is about composure, courage, resolve and perseverance. We have all read stories or seen movies where there is a crisis and then someone of character steps up and steers the way through a dark moment. In real life, things don’t always work this way. The energy of the Strength card is one of quiet determination. Strength is not flashy, daring and showy. Strength is solid, reliable and consistent.
Strength is also about compassion and patience, and believe it or not, love. It is so easy to get angry or frustrated when things are not working for you. The Strength card tells you not to give up. While this card is about determination, having stamina and being your own rock, you need to know your own limits. If you are pushing too hard, it is also about knowing when it is time to withdraw and be patient.
This brings me to the image in the card. What are we looking at here? It is often said that each of the tarot cards is a mirror – reflecting back on ourselves. The lion represents “the beast” or our own inner beast. Meaning, that part of ourselves that needs – needs money, power, success or recognition – or fill in your own blank – to feel at ease in our lives. The maiden represents that part of ourselves that is calm, nurturing and in control. Both of these figures exist within us. Who do you choose to listen to?
Wreaths symbolize completion. There is hope and understanding, a balance can be found. A wreath worn can hold similar significance to a crown. It is victorious.
The vibrant yellow background of the Strength card speaks of an intuition and intelligence. It also indicates a positive outcome. It brings a consciousness and energy to our actions.
Some question you might ask in relation to this card: What motivates your actions? When do you feel most in control? Are you pushing too hard? What does success look like to you? What is your biggest source of joy?
Strength is not an approach with which we wield power over others, but a way to stop others from wielding power over ourselves.
Does this card resonate with you? In what way? Feel free to comment on my FB page, instagram or drop me a line.
I wish you strength and understanding.
Happy Labor Day!
Until the next time . . . . .
