Knights in Tarot suggest movement, change and travel. In the court card family, they are the juveniles – volatile, searching, energetic, on a mission, ready for battle and sometimes unpredictable. Knights can represent people, events or even an energy of a situation. With there being 4 suits in the tarot deck and therefore 4 Knights, each take on the energy of their element.
The Knight of Pentacles represents the energy of the element of earth. He is the astrological sign of Virgo, a mutable earth sign with a range of traits such as one who is shrewd, prudent, practical, meticulous, dependable, efficient, methodical, narrow minded, and unimaginative to name a few. This Knight is willing to invest continuous effort, determination and self control in order to achieve his set goal(s). He is a hard worker who is slow to rise to anger. He genuinely loves animals and nature. This Knight is ambitious and has high ideals. He is also compassionate, reliable and thoughtful.
Let’s take a closer look at the card. What images jump out at you? One of the first things that I notice is the vibrant yellow background of the card. Yellow is the color of intelligence. It is also intuition, mental power and concentration. Yellow indicates positive outcomes as well as a strong sense of self confidence. Clear yellow skies suggest he has put a lot of thought into his future and in setting his goals. The next thing that catches my attention in the picture is the powerful black horse that this Knight is riding. Though this horse is at rest (not in an action pose) it is also clearly alert and present. The knight on the horse takes the same pose, though not currently in action, he is clearly ready for action. Horses represent strength, motion, action and overall vitality. Lastly, the knight holds his pentacle out in front of him. Is this an offering? It is on display for all to see? Or maybe, is it his map, showing him the road to success.
Often when a knight shows up in a reading it means that things are starting to change. It may be an unexpected opportunity or something that has been in the works but has possibly stalled for a time. When the Knight of Pentacles appears, it tells me your efforts will be rewarded.
Some questions to consider at this time: What do you want? How are you planning to make it happen? Are you being true to yourself? How can you ground yourself? Are you trusting your gut instincts? Are things clear? What needs to be made clearer? What needs your protection?
