Choice.
It is an integral part of our day to day lives. Whether we are talking about relationships, career, moral decisions or simply where to take our summer vacation. It is a constant buzz that surrounds us.
The Seven of Cups is a card of choice. It shows us how we define ourselves through the choices that we make.
The Seven of Cups also represents wisdom and the inner self. We all have grown and learned from choices we have made in our lives that if given the chance to do over, we might have taken a different path.
Let’s take a closer look at what is here.
First, the number seven can bring about conflict and choice. This struggle tends to be based more on inner truth(s) than outside influences. It is also about intuition and imagination. Seven is a mystical number. When it shows up, it tells that there is more going on than meets the eye.
The Cups are the suit of water and are emotions based. The Seven of Cups is about dreams, fantasies and temptations. This card shows that an emotional pull can influence the reality that you are living.
As we can see from the card, there is a silhouetted figure standing in front seven golden cups which are surrounded by a fog. Each cup is filled with a different offering. The objects include: A snake, a man’s head, a tower carved out of rock, a laurel wreath, a dragon, jewels and a shrouded figure.
What each of these cups holds is more than meets the eye.
Did you notice that there is a skull on the cup that has the laurel wreath? Usually the wreath indicates victory, might the skull suggest the downside to winning at any cost? Are the jewels a gift being given willingly? The shrouded figure appears to be glowing. Is this telling us to hold our faith even if we cannot see what is coming our way? The castle’s meaning deals with goals. What strong foundations have you put down? Has a fog rolled in? Is it hard to see or gauge an emotional response clearly?
Is anything straightforward?
This card holds the title The Lord of Illusory Success. This card is asking us to determine if what we are feeling (and thinking) are conclusions draw from what we are looking at *or* is it only our perception?
As mentioned, sevens can represent challenges. The challenge here may be to have faith that the emotional fog will clear, and with it the courage and wisdom to make that choice.
Questions to consider: Are you seeing the truth in the situation? Are you choosing for the right reasons? Might you benefit from waiting to make your decision? Which cup would you choose? And, why?
