Welcome to this month’s first blog in the Eight of Pentacles series, Do What You Love. Are you ready for a change in energy from last month (raise your ✋ if so)? If October was about figuring out what’s going on and where you stand, November is about showing up with a new vibe. The vibe feels diligent, detail-oriented, and full of progress.
Traditionally, the Eight of Pentacles is the card of the apprentice—a resourceful and practical craftsman who is patiently working towards mastering a skill.
Eight of Pentacles aligns with the Mark Twain quote, “love what you do, and you’ll never work a day in your life.” They say it takes 10,000 hours to master a skill, and this card shows the beginning of that process. Remember that while this may be related to a current job, work-based project, or personal goals, this can also speak of taking a hobby and making it a viable financial endeavor.
Pentacles relate to the element of earth and infer hard work, attention to detail, and manifestation. Eights are about expansion, movement, inspiration, and the ability to prioritize.
This card is associated with an effort to learn and perfect a skill. It brings attention to detail that allows you to produce consistent results.
The man in the card—totally engaged in his endeavor and hard at work creating new gold coins—illustrates using practical skills to transform resources into tangible reality. Wholly dedicated to the task at hand, he brings a sense of confidence, assurance, and purpose to his work that ultimately translates into financial security.
It’s the Journey
Pentacles often correlate with career and finances but indicate success through what you do based on your strong attention to detail and high-quality work. Experienced at what he does—because he’s learned his trade methodically and patiently—this man illustrates his high standards for the quality of his work. Work of which he is proud.
The Eight of Pentacles may also represent a time of progress when everything falls into place and rewards your hard work as you become a role model and inspire others. This card reminds you of the importance of having enough patience to take your time and avoid shortcuts, lest they produce shoddy work. And often, patience and persistence keep you hammering away until you get the job done right.
The card also reminds you to do something you enjoy and to love what you do, whether it’s work, a hobby, or growing a relationship. However, it warns you not to become a workaholic and that the journey and not only the outcome matters most.
Ask Yourself:
- What do you love most about what you do?
- How have you become more confident about your skills through dedication, patience, and persistence?
- (If #2 has yet to be the case) think about how you can pursue your greatest passion by dedicating yourself to learning more that will ultimately transform you into a skilled expert.
