I think about the color yellow and, for me, the sun instantly comes to mind. Who doesn’t love the sun? It is warm, bright, magnetic and makes everything brighter and clearer when it is around.
Yet, the truth is, the meaning of the color yellow can be varied and almost contradictory, depending on who you ask. Yellow seems to be one of those colors that people either absolutely LOVE or simply LOATHE.
Yellow is one of the three primary colors (the other two being blue and red). Feelings and meanings about the color may change with the tint or shade – for example, the difference between a pastel yellow or a golden yellow.
Yellow is both the lightest and brightest color on the color wheel. Would you believe that even some blind people can detect the color yellow when it shows up?
Yellow rules the Solar Plexus Chakra, the Solar Plexus essentially acts as the brain of our nervous system. Powerful.
Yellow is about intuition. It is also about the intellect, mental power and concentration. Yellow promotes self confidence and also helps us cope during time of stress.
In the tarot, when yellow shows up it suggests that the use of intuition and your own intelligence will solve the issue, situation or conundrum. In tarot, yellow suggests positive outcomes, clarity and a way forward.
L. Frank Baum, the writer of The Wizard of Oz, tells the classic and phenomenally popular story of self contradiction. The scarecrow who thinks he has no brains though he keeps coming up with solutions on the journey. The tinman who thinks he has no heart, but is emotional and heartfelt in how he interacts with the creatures they encounter on their journey. And, the cowardly lion who thinks he lacks courage but is braver than he thinks. Along with their not quite fearless leader Dorothy and her dog Toto, they are all seeking something. All lacking self confidence, these characters personify intelligence, caring, courage and the intention of moving forward. And what started them on this journey? The yellow brick road! A path of redemption, healing, optimism, change and illumination.
Yellow is not always upbeat and positive. Take the series Breaking Bad (anyone?), a popular crime drama series that has recently ended, about a chemistry teacher turned drug cooker/dealer. The color yellow is often associated with the meth cooking and selling going on. Yellow also stands for caution, as the characters get deeper into the meth business. They wear their yellow protective jumpsuits while working in the underground super lab, indicating their need to control what is going on and the hazard/danger of what they are doing. You may not have noticed, but if you go back and review, you may be surprised by where it shows up!
As with many things, different cultures interpret this vibrant color in a variety of ways. For example, in Japan, yellow means courage and nobility. In China, it represents honor and royalty. Yellow is the color of merchants in India. And, in Egypt, yellow is reserved for mourning.
What does yellow mean to you?
I was prepared to show you the Sun card, but, I am guessing you expected that, so, I changed it up a bit and selected the Page of Pentacles. Another favorite!
The figure in the card is holding a golden pentacle and is surrounded by a rich landscape under a bright yellow sky. This card is about seeing the light in all that is practical and realistic in the world. The suit of pentacles is the element of earth, which give this card some roots. With the energetic yellow filling the background, this card is about events turning in your favor. The energy of this card is about manifesting your success. The level of focus and intention the page is giving to the pentacle shows where his head is. Pay attention to the details and you will achieve beneficial results.
What you put in is what you get out.
Some things to think about: Are you 100% committed to your success? Where are you focusing your attention? Are you considering all of the possibilities? Have you created a short and long term plan? Where does the sun need to shine in your life and what can you do to invite it in? Is it time to go to the beach?
If you are looking to get clear on your path, let’s schedule a session or gathering with friends to get creative, aware and to lighten your load.
Until the next time . . . .
