Cue the noisemakers . . . it’s 2019!
What an amazing, festive, fun and maybe a little bit exhausting holiday season it’s been! Adulting during the holidays is a lot of work. Being present and connecting in the smaller moments can really carry you through.
Did you get a gift or note this year that surprised you or simply made your heart sing? This year, that happened to me in a weird and wonderful way.
Having torn my earlobe (don’t worry, no deets), it’s been years since I’ve worn anything dangly or hanging in my ears. Sad, I know. Years of not wearing fun earrings became, well, no fun! This fall I saw a doctor who fixed me up like new, and got me back in the game. Over the holidays, just as my starter earrings were ready to be swapped out, I was gifted a sweet pair of hoop earrings. My first pair in over 10 years! A random but perfect metaphor for the beginning of a new chapter.
It might not be about the earrings, but your new chapter starts here too.
I have so much to share, read on!
New year, new energy, new universal year number. Here’s what you need to know.
2019 is a Universal 3 year – which we get by adding 2+0+1+9=12, 1+2=3.
As we wave goodbye to 2018, an 11/2 year, a year seemingly dominated by other people’s needs, we slide into 2019 which has a smoother and easier feel to it.
This is the year of you. Finding out what makes you happy and brings you fulfillment is your mission. On this mission, should you choose to take it – um, only kidding, you will take the mission – you may find yourself face to face with your fears of both failure and success.
You will also find courage.
This year we will find independence within our love relationships and we stretch our social circles seeking new friends with common values.
3 is about appearances. Are you worried about keep up appearances?
3 is optimism. How can you make the best of your situation?
You will have bumps. We all do. AND, If you make your personal happiness the theme, you are more than good to go.
With deep thought and intention, I pull our card for the year. Always full of questions and curiosity, I wonder, whose wisdom will we learn from this year? Who will be our teacher?
Direct from his snowy mountaintop, we have The Hermit.
Solid, studious, patient, peaceful and grounded, this guy has your back 100% . In solitude, he has been waiting for you. With humility, he has prepared to teach. Though your time with him is temporary, he will challenge you to go deep. Change is in the air.
The Hermit is the ninth card in the Major Arcana, which also happens to be the same number of months in the human gestation cycle. Coincidence? Maybe so. Either way, let’s qualify this metaphor and point out that with the Hermit, the birth in process is spiritual, rather than physical.
The Hermit is your guide on your journey to your higher self. Yep. Destination YOU.
The Hermit is the astrological sign of Virgo, a mutable earth sign. Earth is rooted and strong. Mutable is about change, flexibility and adaptation. A meticulous and thoughtful planner, the Hermit (like another planner you may know from the holiday season) makes his list and checks it twice to make sure he’s on the right path to reach his goals.
The Hermit’s journey is inward. Did you notice he’s facing left? In tarot, the left is a reference to the past. Showing us that even as we move forward, we bring all of our past experiences, dramas, traumas, loves, emotions, headaches and heartaches with us. The reflective quality of the Hermit brings perspective to these past issues. He enables you to see what was once so unclear. It’s like a bright light is shining into those dark places. What’s waiting here is your truth.
So, what’s happening this year? Your most challenging moments are now your classroom. Understanding your actions is now your homework. The relationships and people you have been unable to release are now your personal debate topic. It’s time to do the work. Let them go. Move into the present.
Traditional meanings of the Hermit card include focusing inward, introspection, a need to understand, wanting the truth at all costs, desiring a new direction, giving/receiving guidance, asking for/receiving help, turning to/acting as a trusted teacher, needing to be alone, seeking solitude.
For work and career, the Hermit speaks of your true calling. How satisfied do you feel with your life choices? Do you feel fulfilled? At an earlier time it’s possible you may have been willing to sacrifice important values for something like a high salary or certain job title. This no longer rings true.
In relationships, the Hermit can be the end of a period of loneliness related to a breakup or old heartache. A fresh start is coming. The Hermit can also stand for an older or wiser partner. Is it time to make more effort or spend more time connecting with your partner? Are you spending more time doing your own thing rather than spending time together? At what cost?
When not working to his fullest potential, the Hermit can be lonely and isolated, lacking communication skills, intolerant, full of doubt and feeling in crisis. Change can make you feel vulnerable and small. It is easy to let your saboteur – the negative voice in your head – hijack what is good. One of Virgo’s life challenges is learning to be alone without being lonely. Rome was not built in a day, and neither are your dreams.

I will leave you with just a few ideas to consider as you start this new year: Where are you not fully present in your life? What questions remain unanswered for you? What topic/theme calls out to you? How can you truly show up for yourself this year?
Let the Hermit be your captain, leading you with purpose, care and wisdom.
Let self-acceptance and self-confidence be your lantern.
As you head off on this new adventure always remember to speak your truth and whenever possible, do it wearing really fun earrings.
Happy Healthy New Year and may it be an awesome 2019!!!
