Here in the northeast we have been whacked by one nasty, cold, wet and snowy winter. I have been baking (a lot!) with my kids. They LOVE to pick fun recipes to try. Our current specialty is pumpkin muffins. They taste so good, but, why do my muffins *never* look like the ones shown on Pinterest?!
Luckily, it is warm inside, and a great time to plan gatherings with lots of tarot fun. What does the future look like? I have been seeing trends with certain cards showing up often, and then again, with other cards never to be seen.
This month, one particular popular card quickly comes to mind. It is a heavy hitter . . . . a major arcana . . . a “trump”. . . it is JUDGEMENT.
At one event, a party guest asked that I tell her what I see for the near future. I drew 3 cards. Interestingly, all were title cards, and held significant meaning. The last card in the line, Judgement. As I gathered my thoughts on where to begin, she asked “Are these cards good? Do they tell you anything?” Dear party guest, you are the inspiration for this month’s blog. Read on.
Each and every one of the 78 cards in my deck is important. A seemingly innocuous card can add information to the one next to it and bring something to the surface that you never expected. Tarot can be so subtle sometimes. Other cards show up and cast a shadow around all of the others, saying in no uncertain terms, “I am important, notice me, it is time to sit up and pay attention, the time is now”. The Judgement card falls in the latter category.
An angel, blowing a horn with a red flag hanging from it, is looking down on humanity. Naked figures of men, women and children rise up from their coffins, heeding the call. The horn’s sound is loud and clear. It is a symbol of our inner calling, telling us it is time for change, for something better.
Have we become too complacent?
The horn is clarity and intervention. Literally a wake up call. It is time to move in a direction that is more fulfilling. The boldly colored flag tells us something is shifting and change is coming. The cross can be seen as a crossroads, but also as an even minded/balanced mind. The naked figures rising with their open arms show their willingness to receive new knowledge and direction.
The Judgement card is number 20. The number 20 speaks of spiritual insights and enlightenment, new plans, ambitions and a new purpose.
It is time to sum up where we are and what we have accomplished. Unlike when we started out on this path (with The Fool, number 0), we now have the benefit of hindsight and perspective. Which decisions were wise and which would we choose to revisit and try again?
Judgement plays a part in every day life. We are constantly making Judgement calls: How to manage our finances, how to raise our children, how to move forward in our careers, how to handle the challenging personality of a friend/colleague/classmate, how to be the best friend or partner in a relationship, and on and on.
Surprisingly. Judgement is not about judging ourselves or others. It is about honesty, being our best selves and rising up to the challenges we face.
When Judgement appears it may mean you are going through a major transformation in your life, or possibility re-inventing yourself. This is not uncommon during mid-life when suddenly it is clear that half your life may have passed without your truly following what you feel is your true calling. A mid-life career change, a move to a new country, state or climate or the simple realization that this pace and stress level is not where you want to be on a daily basis are all possibilities.
The Judgement card may be a time to understand the quality and value of what you have in this world, without needing to constantly add to it. Is it time to enjoy the simple things in life? The appearance of Judgement may suggest dialing down your needs in the material world, or finding a way to volunteer or give back in a way that focus’s more on giving and doing for others.
The Judgement card also represents judges, juries, and courts. You may be awaiting a final ruling on a case. Are you personally involved? If you have told the truth, the outcome generally works in your favor. If not, lies and deceptions will be revealed. There is an element of payback that resides here as well. But have no fear, Judgement can be a chance to clear what weighs on your conscience, and to seek forgiveness.
Questions for you to ask yourself: Is it time for a change or transformation in my life? Where do I lack clarity? To what am I now completely open to that I was not last year at this time? What old routine needs to be made new again? Is it time to put some new clothes on that naked body?
