December ❄️ is here, and it’s time for ACTION 💨.
The Knight of Cups
The Knight of Cups energy will be escorting us through the holiday season, and this news couldn’t be sweeter. Cups are the suit of emotion and are associated with love, feelings, relationships, and connection.
Knights represent things that are arriving/moving at great speed or signify change. They show up as a message, or by messenger and are full of enthusiasm, passion, and determination. The knights appear when we make significant changes in our lives. They can represent a change of address or a move across (or out of) the country. They can also represent a change in job or career or the beginning or end of a relationship.
It is through this change that our true self appears, and we find ourselves.
The Knight of Cups is by far the most romantic knight of the bunch. He’s engaging, sensitive, creative, caring, emotional, honest, empathetic, and maybe just a little bit starry-eyed. He represents gentleness, affection, warmth, joy, peace, and true romance. Having him show up in a reading may suggest a proposal, offer, good news, or invitation.
The Knight of Cups can represent grace under pressure or diplomacy. Persuasive, gracious, and charming, he always seems to know precisely the right thing to say. If you find yourself in a situation where you (or a charming young man) is helping negotiate the situation, you have found your knight!
Don’t be fooled by his sweetness; this knight has ambitions, goals, and dreams. His drive towards success focuses on the ideals of creativity, art, community, and spirituality. Our knight has a great interest in creating beauty with the intention of sharing it with others.
When not operating at his highest vibration, the Knight of Cups can be moody, over-emotional, unrealistic, unpredictable, and introverted. He can be manipulative, disloyal, or afraid of commitment, which can show up in behaviors such as procrastination, avoidance, or unwillingness to face a situation head-on.
Can you find the Knight of Cups in this story?
It’s one thing to talk about these behaviors but something else to experience it in real-time.
Earlier this month, I traveled to Kingston, Ontario, for a fabulous and enriching tarot conference. It was one of those planes, trains and automobiles trips – with several legs and many moving parts. On the way home, the last leg of my trip was a flight from Toronto to New York. It was late, and we all just wanted to get home. As we boarded the flight, a fellow passenger was getting a bit loud and confrontational with the flight staff and his seatmate. The airline did its best to control the situation, but this passenger, as he continued to rant, began to make us all feel increasingly uncomfortable. Even so, the airline sealed up the plane and began to pull away from the gate.
Many of my fellow passengers acknowledged this unpredictable man and worried about the threat he might pose to us. Was the plane going to take off? Luckily, no. We rerouted to another gate where we witnessed TSA in action – they whisked in and escorted that man off the plane. You could feel a collective sigh of relief ripple through the airplane. The remainder of the trip was a breeze, and everyone was on their best behavior – polite, kind, gentle, and warm. We all dodged a bullet together, and it brought out the best in us.
Symbolism and Meaning
We learn so much from the card imagery. Check out this month’s video for the quick and dirty deets on the Knight of Cups:
As we maneuver ourselves through this busy season, here are some questions to ask yourself:
- What action is necessary?
- What emotion/feeling is being shared?
- What’s your dream?
- What do you value?
- What’s the right thing to say?
- How can you bring the creativity, happiness, and community of the season into your daily life?
The Knight of Cups is the most gentle and loving of all the knights. His intuition and a strong connection to his emotions allow him to connect with those he cares about. Moving at a measured and steady pace, the appearance of this knight can offer an opportunity to heal old wounds and put long-standing grudges to rest.
Action comes in many forms, shapes, and sizes. This holiday season, I offer you to consider saying yes to invitations, entertaining unexpected offers, and being open to a new creative way of thinking. Be the Knight of Cups. Emotion In Action.
