As we make our way through these last days of 2022, the Page of Cups remains an excellent example (for us to follow) in his temperament and approach to life. Aside from his charm, he is also playful, imaginative, and full of fun and surprises. The Page of Cups does not expect what life will bring; more importantly, he’s ready for whatever comes his way. I invite you to bring this energy every day. Watch what blossoms—or jumps out of your cup—not just for the holidays but year-round!
This month, I had my Page of Cups moment by joining a few of my beloved high school friends for a yacht rock revue concert. For my younger audience, what is yacht rock? Well, yacht rock is music primarily created between 1976 and 1984 that’s smooth and easy to listen to. You know, the music you might hear on a yacht! Think Hall and Oates, REO Speedwagon, Jackson Browne, and Steely Dan—and you likely know all the words! Its name, coined in 2005, came from its association with leisurely sailing. The show I got to attend was called Hot Dads in Tight Jeans, a description that describes them perfectly. Hubba, Hubba!
Even though it was my first yacht rock concert, I said YES. It was such a fun night of play. Taking inspiration from my inner Page, I sang with the rest of the crowd and was up dancing most of the night. It was indeed one of the best nights of the year. And I was not alone! Many in the crowd didn’t take themselves too seriously and wore skipper hats with holiday lights. It was so silly, and I loved it.
This week, I invite you to consider how you want to say YES and bring more play into your life, like the Page. I invite you to sing, dance, or wear a funny hat/outfit. That’s what it’s all about! Act like the Page of Cups and enjoy the adventure.
