Hello March and welcome to my newest readers!
February was a full month crowded with world/domestic news, highs and lows, insights, and upsets. When new information comes forward showing gaping holes in the current system, the very human and instinctual response is to want to do something, make changes. Though I am not usually one to hone in on specific events, the sad, unfortunate, heartbreaking tragedy that occurred in Parkland, Florida at the Marjory Stoneman Douglas High School on February 14th deserves acknowledgement. Not only for the many ways that this troubled teen shooter seems to have slipped through the cracks, how the many red flashing lights shined on him were ignored or buried, but also for the way that the parents, classmates, community and ultimately, the country have responded.
The losses have rippled out.
From this loss, we have seen an unbelievable display of strength, courage, resilience, spirit, resolve, determination, tenacity and enterprise. Surprising to a few politicians and maybe even the NRA itself, this charge is being led by a charismatic, well spoken and fearless teen/youth movement that are tired of waiting for the adults in the room to make necessary change.
Our card this month is the Page of Swords. Read on.
You may find it interesting to know that the tarot has something like a family structure woven into its architecture. These cards are called the Court (Cards). Each of the 4 suits in the tarot deck has an ace through a ten and then there is the Court, which consists of a Page, Knight, Queen and King. The Page is the most junior member of this squad.
The Pages in tarot represent young people (of both genders) up to age 22. Pages can also represent older people who are starting over again in life doing some re-training or going back to school, children, a young unmarried woman or can represent an event in your life that has made you feel young again.
The Pages, being the youngest in the Court Card family, can highlight the early stages of something. This could mean the birth of a new way of acting, doing, thinking or feeling.
Adrenalized, passionate and zealous, Pages are like students showing up for their first day of school or college, excited and enthusiastic. Everything is so new, unique and compelling. Pages in their young and pure minds are just beginning to understand how their world works. Circle back to that same new student a few semesters in to that challenging major they chose and most will tell you, the road to mastery can be long, demanding and tedious.
Pages can be seen as a messenger who carries ideas, concepts and thoughts. Strongly associated with news, the appearance of a Page can indicate that news is on the way. What kind of news? The news the Page of Swords brings is often associated with legal matters, contracts, conflict or gossip. The Swords Court family can also represents the medical profession, such as specialists, consultants and surgeons. News may be of hospital/doctor appointments, test results or surgery.
The Page of Swords is witty, clever, alert and inquisitive. This cards energy shows up as direct, communicative, truthful, hard-working, diligent, and practical. This person has no tolerance for injustice and can sometimes come across as insensitive or too direct when trying to get his/her point across. Although his/her attention can sometimes feel scattered, s/he loves a mental challenge and can often be found trying to figure out how things work.
The Page of Swords is intelligent, compassionate, thoughtful and capable. This is someone who knows how to achieve solid results. This card may be telling you to be patient, to think before you speak and to not get drawn in to unnecessary conflicts. The Page is protective, guarded and ready to stand his/her ground. S/he is mentally agile, educated and curious.
The downside of the Page, issues often point to a breakdown in communication. If the card were to show up as reversed, the Page of Swords can represent disappointing news, lack of idea or inspiration. It can signify being defensive, malicious, impulsive, cold, cynical or sarcastic. It may represent a lack of fairness, not speaking out against injustice or even breaking the law. Maybe you have nothing to say, or are lacking in communication skills. This card may indicate gossip, spying or prying eyes. It is also possible that someone is keeping the truth hidden from you or has a hidden agenda. It can also reveal that someone is all talk and no action.
Where is the tip of the Page’s Sword? And, other interesting symbolism in the card here:
Some question to consider this month: Where are you bringing a renewed energy and focus? What injustice are you ready to speak up about? What does ‘telling the truth’ mean to you? How will you turn something initially disappointing into an opportunity? Are you communicating in a clear and direct way? How can you right a wrong? Is someone blowing smoke your way? Did you research the facts?
What spurs action is a situation that can simply no longer be tolerated.
That we are now aware of those who try to use their sharp wit or hidden connections and agendas to try and manipulate the outcome is a first step.
Who will initiate the tide of change?
You determine what comes next.
May the inspiration, courage and perceptive nature of the Page of Swords guide you.
