We’ve explored the meaning, imagery, and symbolism in the Eight of Wands. Let’s drop in on a reading from this past month and see how it applies. Armed with three blogs of information about the Eight of Wands, please don’t be a shrinking violet about trying out some ideas of your own.
There are many messages here, and none are wrong. So I invite you to apply the reading to yourself. Sit with what speaks to you, and leave the rest.
Pay attention to…
- Where do your eyes land first?
- How do you feel?
- What does your intuition say?

Cards: Five of Cups, The Sun, and Eight of Wands
Five of Cups: Keywords include loss, grief, disappointment, sadness, and mourning. Reversed can also mean acceptance and finding peace. The Five of Cups is about loss. A figure draped in black and covered in grief dominates the card. This card alerts you to the possibility of a loss (big or small) and its surrounding emotions: sorrow, regret, and denial. It may be tangible (money, possession, relationship, work) or intangible (the loss of a dream or opportunity). You may know what this card represents in your life, and it can be a reminder to sit with your feelings. While its appearance may feel discouraging, it does have a positive side. Every loss opens the door for new possibilities for growth because every loss initiates change.
The Sun: Keywords include success, optimism, vitality, confidence, and truth. The sun is brilliant, radiant, and sparkling. If we turn on the light in a room, we illuminate it to see all the dark corners. When we turn on the light in our minds, we are enlightened, can see clearly, and understand the truth. Either way (inward or outward), the energy of light expands our limits and makes us shine.
Eight of Wands: Back again! Keywords are movement, speed, progress, quick decisions, sudden changes, waiting, chaos, and delays. A sign that the time is now. All the elements are aligned and will work for you. Don’t drag your feet. The iron is hot, so strike! If events are already in motion, things will move forward quickly. You may feel caught in a whirlwind but know the dust will settle soon.
The Arrival
Pay attention to everything that comes your way; you may see or hear something important. The news could show up cloaked as something else, so stay alert.
Endings
Sooner or later, all activities run their course. The eight wands symbolize putting events into motion and bringing them to a natural conclusion. They appear to be ending their flight by coming down to earth. Celebrate the past, but prepare to move on to something new.
Interpretation
A relationship has been disappointing in some ways but also a great gift in others—granting desired freedom and independence, feeling weighed down by a lost opportunity or what could have been. The Sun shines from its middle position, exuding abundance, radiance, and strength. And courage, truth, and confidence.
Personal desires are rising to the top. No longer held back, growth and change are already on the way. The opportunity you seek may happen quickly and differ from what you imagined. (The Sun can burn if you are unprepared). The timing is Summer. (Sun is Leo) Change is in motion. Your time is now.
Advice
Get a clear picture of what you want and hold tight. Whether something amazing is beginning or coming in for a landing, are you open to change? Are you willing to let go of whatever safety net keeps you from manifesting a summer to remember? For change to occur, something must be released.
Now it’s your turn. Hit reply and share.
Until the next time… ever upward!
