Hello October!
Seeing what is going on in the world around us both domestically and abroad . . . a heated political race, a battle over gun control, issues of inequality, lack of transparency, our failing education system, the threat of terrorism, I could go on . . . .this is a time like no other. It is a time when we can no longer bury our heads in the sand. It is a time of responsibility, evaluation and conscience.
Choices, decisions and the elusive search for balance. . . . Justice is in the house!
When it is time to do the right thing, accept responsibility for your actions, make a big move, or time to decide your right path, the trusty tarot deck will show you Justice.
Justice relates to the idea of karma. When she shows up, and by the way, that is a *she* sitting there on that throne; she says, you are exactly where you are meant to be in your life right now. The legal references (see below) in the card ring true. Justice reveals that you are both the judge and the jury of yourself – and she urges you to be compassionate.
Justice is one of the few cards in the deck of 78 cards where the figure in the card is looking directly at you. This might be a good time to mention that this card is known for its laser like focus and that the function of Justice is work. Justice sees you. She sees right through you. She demands facts and will not tolerate lies. Justice has pure motives and intentions and says it is time for you to get to work.
Her upright double edged sword, which is an uncommon tarot image (usually only one sided), shows us she understands there are two sides to every story. The sword also tells us that as for most things, the choices we make have residual affects.
Justice is neither positive nor negative. There are no judgements or disapprovals here. This card is about the facts, black and white, no bias.
Swords represent the mind. This card is not about emotion or passion. Justice is cool headed and calm, centered and focused. Justice brings about adjustment, accountability, decency and principle. it is a time of seeking relevance, satisfaction and meaning.
Justice is the astrological sign of Libra whose energy is focused on maintaining balance and harmony. The scales being held by the image in the card represent this quest for balance in all things. Libra’s are known for their indecision, often painstakingly weighing out right versus wrong when making a decision. Also known for their honesty, Libra is truth seeking to a fault, using her double edged sword to cut through any smoke, mirrors and confusion.
You ask . . What is her secret power? Intuition.
Justice is also about cause and effect. Justice often appears when you are concerned about doing the right thing (cause). Or, if in the case that this something has already happened, about receiving what is coming to you (effect). This cause and effect can refer to a good deed or a mistake you have made. Or sometimes, it is simply a signal. Whatever the scenario, your actions and decisions have outcomes and aftereffects.
The Justice card does also have legal intonations. It is associated with the courts and law and can also indicate legal matters, legal paperwork that needs to be sorted through, a court case or some type of settlement. You many be signing documents – a loan agreement, marriage or business contract. An upright Justice card would mean things going in your favor.
I usually pick an image or two that jumps out and gives more information on the card. It would be hard to miss the woman sitting in the center of the card. She is the goddess Athena who represents wisdom, courage, inspiration, civilization, law and justice, just warfare, mathematics, strength, strategy, the arts, craft and skill. Wow, right?! Her robe is a vibrant red, a symbol of desire and action along with a green cloak, a symbol of growth. She holds the Sword of Justice in one hand, and the scales, symbolizing equality and balance in the other. You can see that under her robe a white slippered foot peeks out, showing a readiness to act at any moment and pure unbridled intention.
The Justice card asks that you follow your intuition and you move forward with plans. Do not let anyone sway or influence you from your intended path. Trust your judgement. Just think, “what would Athena do?”
Some questions you might consider this month: What is my intention/goal? Is there a situation where I am unable (or unwilling) to see the truth? What am I feeling red hot desire for or moved to act on this month? Do I trust my own intuition? Why am I indecisive? Which of Athena’s qualities are most like me? In what way? How can I improve my balance . . . yoga anyone??
If you are looking for guidance or insight into where you are right now, I am available for readings by appointment.
I wish you insight and balance, now get to work!
Until the next time . . . .
