When the going gets tough, the tough—give back. I bet you didn’t expect that! Before we dive into that aspect, let’s briefly recap. The Six of Cups is about home, childhood joy, nostalgia, comfort, and forgiveness.
Can you think of a sweet memory or that someone from your past may hold a key detail to your present or future? With its sweet image, the Six of Cups can also represent a child in your life. This may be your child or the inner child that lives within you.
There are so many ways to learn from children. In the eyes of a child, the little things in life are fun and exciting. And everything seems less complicated. Hope, curiosity, and happiness flow effortlessly. Imagine if adults stopped focusing on doing “all the things” in the quest to be happy and allowed their younger, more carefree selves to show up and, without much thought, grab their curiosity on the way out the door; what would (or could?) be possible?
And finally, let’s talk about the meaning that weaves all of the aspects we have shared: the theme of giving back. This may come in charity, sharing, sacrifice, cooperation, etc. Donating your time and talent to others, focusing on giving more than receiving, or giving an unexpected gift is so underrated.
This brings me back to a memory from a few years ago on Valentine’s Day. In between client appointments, I stopped by a nearby deli to grab a quick lunch. A sweet older woman was in front of me in line. An impulse spurred me to step in as she was paying. I told the cashier I wanted to pay for this woman’s lunch. I still remember the look of surprise and then how a grateful smile spread across her face. What a great day!
While there is a lot to think about here, I will leave you with an affirmation and an invitation to put it to use in the world, Six of Cups style.
Affirmation: I freely give myself to others, expecting nothing in return.
I’ve got a nifty little lesson for you next week. Stay tuned!
Until then,
Ever upward!
