Today is the first day of Spring!
Yes, I know, many would argue (at least here in the northeast) that it doesn’t feel like it. It is cold! But, change is coming, can’t you feel it?
This past week I was exchanging emails with a client. 2013 had been a challenging, unpredictable and taxing year. “When would things change?”, she asked. Good question!
One of the many things I love about tarot is the ability to see and even create the change you are looking for. Let’s dig in.
The traditional tarot deck has four suits: Wands, Cups, Pentacles and Swords.
The four suits of the tarot deck each have their own characteristics, elements, astrologicial signs, symbols and meanings.
Each suit starts in an ace, goes through the ten and then has a court which consists of a page, knight, queen and king. Each card having its place and meaning in the story.
The Aces are the root of each suit. They are the beginning. They are filled with the active energy of the suit, ready to be put to use. I look at the ace’s as NASA rockets, ready for take off!
Swords are the suit of the mind, the intellect, thoughts and ideas.
Swords are the season of Spring.
With the arrival of the new season, I felt the ace would be a perfect place to start. New beginnings in the realm of the mind, thoughts and idea.
The Ace of Swords is about bringing a new attitude and perspective to your every day. Clarity, insight and focus are where we are headed. Put your helmet on!
Let’s take a quick look at the card.
A hand firmly holding an upright swords extends from a cloud. The sword represents the intellect, logic, reason and communication. It is upright and showing its double blade, which indicates its ability to see both sides of a situation. The sky is clear, suggesting mental clarity. A golden crown, associated with leadership and intelligence, rests above the sword. There is an olive branch (peace) on the left and a palm branch (suffering) on the left. The purple and blue mountains in the background are high ideals and mental boundaries.
The sword focuses its attention on what is important. It forces us to ask questions of ourselves and our life. It demands total honesty. It is time to see things as how they are, not as how you hope or imagine them to be.
The Ace of Swords is strong and forceful. It is time to cut away what no longer works. It is time to leave behind old attitudes and beliefs that are slowing our growth and movement forward.
The swords are associated with challenge and conflict. The ace reminds you to get clear in your communication. Find the reality in what you are seeking. And, essentially, cut through the bulls***.
The Ace of Swords is often a new attitude replacing an old one. You must think with your head, not your heart. Focus and concentration are essential.
In the Ace of Swords it is helpful to listen to both sides of an argument before making a choice, and useful to getting things in writing.
In a career, this card would indicate a new career or position where you will be intellectually challenged and/or there is a lot of communication involved. Or,with work, can signal a breakthrough in negotiations.
In relationships, the Ace of Swords can indicate a new relationship with someone of a similar outlook and attitude.
Questions to consider at this time: What old thoughts and attitudes need to be released (or cut)? How can I take the initiative and put my plan into action? Am I allowing/hearing others as they voice their thoughts? What is distracting me right now? What new adventure awaits this Spring? What is the best strategic approach?
Big things are happening this Spring.
