Did anyone ring in the new year out in nature . . . .naked . . . by a body of water . . . filling and emptying jugs of water . . . by light of the bright night sky?
If you did, you are off to a good start becoming one with our major arcana card of the year. If not, no worries, I am hear to get you all caught up!
2015 has put many of us to the test. Our world is changing. We are seeking solutions or maybe a middle point that we can all agree on. Is that possible – can we all agree on anything? What does the future hold?
The Star card comes after another infamous tarot card, The Tower. The Tower is a bit of a wrecking ball, destroying everything in its path. Removing what is blocking us and holding us back. The energy of The Star sweeps in as we turn our calendar to a new fresh page, away from The Tower.
This new page is filled with hope, inspiration, optimism and insight.
The Star shows peace, contentment and protection.
Tarot’s title cards (or Major Arcana, as they are known) each have both an astrological affiliation and a function.
The astrological association for The Star card is Aquarius. Though water is front and center in the card image, Aquarius is actually an air sign. Aquarians tend to be less emotional and more intellectual, future minded and outgoing. Aquarius is full of ideas, fun conversation and always ready to lend a helping hand. Aquarius looks to the future. It does not predict any immediate or powerful change, but it does predict hope and healing. Aquarius can sometimes be aloof or detached and can be hard to get close to. The quest for knowledge, focusing on their vision and need for independence is a priority.
The Star’s association with Aquarius is also related to the characteristics of creativity, sensitivity and its function . . . . using your imagination.
Along with your imagination, Aquarius is resourceful, energetic and fiercely independent. In tarot, it can also show up as the pursuit of knowledge, courage and the willingness to push forward and pursue your dreams.
Of all of the images in the card, the one that catches my eye is the water. The pool of water in the card represents something of a collective unconscious. This body of water holds the experiences, feelings and thoughts of every individual. We are all connected. We are all in this together. When we think a thought, it is like the small movements of a wave that span out. If that thought is hostile or cynical, that is what we are sending out. On the other hand, if that thought is hopeful and inspired, this is what we are sending forward. How many of us have read in books, listened in TED talks or have heard while in yoga class the importance of positive thinking? The Star is the embodiment of this philosophy.
So, what will this year bring for you? Some thoughts and questions for you to think about on this day: What positive action are you prepared to take as you begin this new year? How can you use your imagination to achieve your goal? How can you bring more ease into your life? What needs to be approached with less emotion and more thought? Is it time to get naked?
May 2016 be a year of new opportunities, success and happiness.
I look forward to hearing how the Star is showing up for *you* this year.
Until the next time . . .
