Our most valuable lessons are often learned through pain, uncomfortable situations, and the challenges we face. This year has been one big classroom! What have you been learning? Let’s talk about the Ace of Swords.
The Ace of Swords
In the tarot, the Swords are the difficult cards and are often linked with challenges, conflict, and pain. But don’t click away because there’s more!
Even though the Swords may not be exactly the suit you look to for good times and happy endings, they are clear, focused thought and mental sharpness. It is said that the truth can hurt – AND – that the truth will set you free.
The Suit of Swords is the suit of the truth (seeker). Swords deal with intellect, determination and are full of awareness and understanding. It is here – in the Swords – that we find meaning.
Let’s Talk About The Truth
The Ace of Swords symbolizes truth above all and will do whatever it takes to reach that truth. So, let’s talk about the truth.
Aces in the tarot are beginnings, potential, focus, opportunities, and (unexpected) gifts.
Swords are intelligence, reason, your rational mind, truth, justice, communication, and, sometimes, conflict.
The Ace of Swords focuses its attention only on what’s important. It forces us to ask questions and demands total honesty.
- Are you in a relationship that’s dragging you down?
- How do you really feel about your job or career?
- How can you get control over that bad habit and start a healthier lifestyle?
- What is no longer serving you?
It’s time for a fresh perspective, so replace that old attitude with a new one or get some clarity and create a new viewpoint.
In relationships, get to the heart of the matter and break through the fog that is clouding your ability to see the truth. Clear communication, being honest, and speaking up for yourself are essential if you want to have the kind of relationship you deserve. You may be getting a new job, promotion, or project in a stimulating environment in a career. It can also mean brainstorming, new ideas, communicating with colleagues, or bringing in a new vision or focus.
Whatever it is you’re doing, the Ace of Swords says do not let your heart overrule your head at this time. And don’t make financial decisions based on your emotions.

Slow Down
Being a busy New Yorker, for years, I have prided myself in my ability to burn the candle at both ends. But do you know what the problem was with that? Multi-tasking and keeping a super tight schedule wasn’t actually working. When the pandemic arrived in our lives this past spring, I was forced – along with everyone else – to slow down and (in some places) stop. Life changed overnight, and, suddenly, I got it. I realized that life was not meant to be run at breakneck speed but was about taking a stand for what’s important and creating that life. This year has been full of challenges and big decisions. It has also been full of insights and interesting a-ha’s, and I am grateful for both.
How has the Ace of Swords been showing up for you?
Consider these questions:
- What’s your truth?
- What’s important?
- What are you learning?
- What does it mean to take control?
- How are peace and success showing up for you?
The Ace of Swords is about intellect, reason, overcoming obstacles, and sudden insights but it’s also about courage. So, get to the point. Cut through the confusion. Check the facts. Keep your promises. Communicate with clarity. Do what is right and best for you. Be fiercely courageous in your pursuits. And, if you’re willing to take the initiative and act quickly, your efforts will be rewarded in spades with the truth.
Ever upward!
