Hello November!
If my readings and conversations this month are any indicator, I would say that many of us are happy to leave the challenging and sometimes excitable energy of October behind.
I mention this because so many have mentioned to me recently how they are going through difficult, stressful, humbling (both personal and professional) issues that are bringing all kinds of emotions ranging from anger to despair, and sadness to confusion. All this without even bringing up the topic of politics! I found myself looking for some guidance to share from the tarot.
I am happy to come back with. . . . the Nine of Pentacles.
A quick look at the picture on the Nine of Pentacles will show you golden coins hanging from the vine. Success, prosperity and luxury jump from the image. This person must have it all. Right?
Yes, BUT, there is more to it than that. Success and impressive results rarely just happen on their own. Most often there is meticulous planning, focus, hard work, and self discipline as well.
The suit of Pentacles is connected to the element of earth. There is a grounding energy or rootedness to the suit of Pentacles. The Pentacles are about what is valuable to us. This could be a material item such as a family heirloom, a business you have built from the ground up, or something we value like a good reputation or strong work ethic. Some inner qualities that are tied to the Pentacle are: Focus, ambition, a respect for family ties, and a tendency to be a methodical, a logical thinker who moves and makes decisions slowly.
The story of the Nine of Pentacles started earlier in the suit. What we do not see is the beginning of her story. The parts where she studied hard when starting out, struggled, saved, stuck to her plan, gained, failed, picked herself up, and gotten back out there with her goal and relentless determination. Exhausting! And, I am just writing about it. The bottom line? Her success did not simply happen. Does anyone’s?
The Nine of Pentacles is now in a position where she can enjoy and even relish in the literal fruits of her hard labor. Her gown is rich and elegant. She is polished and savvy. She is self reliant, safe and secure. Golden coins grow along side luscious grapes in her fertile garden.
It was not always this way. Finding this level of success demands hard work, sacrifice, and discipline.
For those of us who resonate with any stage of her story, the question is . . . how to move forward? Another way I find information in the card is by looking at the picture. What stands out or calls my attention? Read on!
Many images in the card jump out at me. First, the vibrant yellow color that permeates the whole image. This is the color of intelligence. Yellow indicates head over heart logic and a nice, warm environment for growth. It is also the color of the steady constant Sun that keeps everything moving forward. The Pentacles themselves are also slow, steady, established and ultimately, successful.
Did you notice the snail that is slowly moving across the well manicured lawn of her property? This snail is symbolic of the amount of time it takes to reach a target or goal. Some things just cannot be rushed along and it teaches us the lesson of persistence and patience. In this 24/7 world we live in, how easy it is to give up when a quick result is not achieved. And, what about those other plans that life is making for us while we strive? This leads me to another meaning of the snail. The one where, if left to its own devices, this snail could do some damage to this perfect garden. So, why does the snail remain? I believe, to show us that we cannot control everything, no matter how much money, power or confidence you have.
The snail carries its home on its back. This relates to feeling secure within ourselves. You need to feel this on the inside in order to radiate it on the outside.
Some questions to consider: What keeps you grounded? Which personal trait/possession do you value in yourself? Do you recall a time when you struggled and conquered? What was learned from this experience? What is your true focus, and how far are you willing to go to reach that target? Are you dressed for success? Are you ready to plant the seeds to start growing your own golden coins?
I wish you your own beautiful golden garden, start weeding!
