Of the 78 cards in the tarot deck, some stand out more than others. While Temperance, the Eight of Pentacles or Chariot cards may have you drawing a blank, you might have some success taking a stab at what The Wheel of Fortune means. We’ve all see the game show, yes?
The Wheel of Fortune is the Ultimate Symbol of Luck, Chance, and Movement
This is true in the tarot as well. The Wheel of Fortune is where the invisible threads of our lives weave together. It’s where you suddenly find opportunity within an accident or are surprised by a karmic turn of events. The Wheel is the cycles of our lives, unexpected luck, advancements, setbacks, success, failure, development, and growth. The Wheel of Fortune never stops moving and connects to everything.
The Lesson The Wheel Teaches Us
The lesson of the Wheel is impermanence, meaning, nothing lasts forever. No matter how much we try to hold on to a situation or stay in a moment, we can’t stop the wheel from spinning. We’ve all been there – trying to hold on to summer, a fabulous vacation, time with a loved one or that excitingly sexy phase of a new relationship. Heck, you may be trying to hold on to something right now!
But, the Universe can’t allow for permanence. Permanence would mean stagnation, and lack of growth.
Do Your Best Work
How do you best work with this energy? The key to success in the Wheel of Fortune is adaptability. Accept the ups and downs, roll with the natural rhythms of life, and with patience, you’ll find your flow.
Sometimes, life works as you’d expect – you complete a project, an invitation you send is received, or an item you’ve ordered is delivered. There are other times when the turn of events takes you by surprise – an old love returns, a friend disappears, a dead-end job takes off, or a fortune is lost. Random? Maybe so and also, perfectly on time. Has this happened to you?
It instantly brings up this very personal story that happened to me.
As a recent college grad, I had a job managing two hotel gyms here in NYC. The gyms, like the hotels, were open 24/7. While not humanly possible, the company I worked for would have been super happy for me to work those exact (24/7) hours. It seemed all I did was attend meetings, create programs, write up reports, handle a constant flow of guest/member issues, and manage a minimally responsive staff. It was stressful. I was unhappy.
One day, while passing by the front desk, I saw a staff member say goodbye and explaining that she had to leave early to get to a class. The staff, cool with this, nodded their heads and were happy to cover for her.
Seeing this unfold, I realized that I needed to take a class. Even though at that moment, I had no idea what this class was. The Universe took care of that. My topic? Tarot.
Soon after finding tarot, I left that fitness center job at the hotel and discovered that NYC has all kinds of juicy and exciting classes. Chance and luck connected me to so many fabulous, deeply knowledgeable, and unbelievably talented teachers.
Thanks to this dark period of my life, I am a total ace with the tarot cards and a fierce and fearless reader, teacher and coach.
I am so lucky and grateful that it happened exactly the way it did. And… I wouldn’t change a thing.

Questions to ask yourself:
- What patterns repeat in your life?
- How does being adaptable play out in your life?
- Do you feel lucky? In what way?
- When has timing made all the difference for you?
- What do you want to hold onto RIGHT NOW?
- What significant change would you like to happen?
Like the Wheel, you are constantly in motion and always changing. You are surrounded by opportunities to expand, develop, and grow.
The Wheel of Fortune is your karma. Learn from past mistakes and set your intentions on the potential of new beginnings. You don’t need to keep going around in circles.
As you walk forward on your path, know that you are exactly where you should be.
Until soon…
