If we have learned anything from our experience this year, it’s that life is impermanent, unpredictable, and full of surprises.
Lately, do you find that your emotions are running on high, or you are questioning your purpose and place in the world? Maybe your relationships (or other areas of your life) that once felt valuable, no longer do? These are eye-opening, heart widening times.
This reminds me of this famous saying, “Life is what happens to you while you are busy making other plans.” John Lennon is onto something here.
Dance in the Moment
What if the real experience of being alive is being in the moment? Think of what could be possible if you danced at this moment. Welcome to The Fool.
The Fool card is number zero and represents uninhibitedness, freedom, living in the present, new experiences, and fearlessness.
The Fool is that childlike excitement you feel when starting a new adventure, a new cycle has begun, or you’re heading out on a new path. The anticipation, butterflies in your stomach, and thrill of it all can make you feel unstoppable.
Live in the Moment
The Fool wants you to live in the moment, find your joy, and trust your instincts. He encourages you to take a risk and step into your life in a new and fearless way. He’s a believer that blind faith and a positive attitude will push you forward.
This all sounds enticing; however, along with this passion comes another energy, one of impulsivity. The Fool makes no plans or gives a whole lot of thought to possible hiccups along the way. Just happy to be doing something different, the Fool blindly moves forward where others fear to tread.
The Flipside
And here, we move to the flipside of the Fool. When not working at full potential, the Fool can imply hesitancy, fear, carelessness, and rashness. It can be someone who never finishes what they start. Or, someone who chooses an easier path, even at their own expense. Timing may be at play – as in, it’s not a good time to make a binding commitment. If this rings true for you, then this is a time for reflection, not action.
If you feel unsure at the moment you want to take the leap, ask yourself: what are your instincts telling you?

Now, ask yourself:
- What is my dream?
- What are my core values?
- I am curious about _______________.
- What do I need to be more present?
- How can I be more playful?
- I can live in the moment by _______________.
- What is in my metaphorical backpack?
- My instincts tell me _______________.
- What would the Fool do in my situation?
Much Needed “Ahhh”
Like you, each month, I am learning the lessons that each tarot card brings up. After several months of living under (self-imposed) strict quarantine limitations, my family decided to take some time away from our New York City life. We rented a house in nature – near water, trees, and lots of green – while finding joy in connecting with nature, experimenting with new recipes, watching sunsets, and going for long walks. We learned new skills like how to row a canoe while fishing and perfected old skills like making smores. The slower pace permitted me the freedom I needed. It’s been both novel and unexpected. Taking a leap of faith and renting a house has been a perfect start to my family’s new adventure.
What changes are you making? Are you taking risks? What new freedom have you discovered? Please share! I would love to hear your story!
The Fool inspires you to open up new areas in your life. Open your arms to the mixture of anticipation, wonder, awe, and curiosity that it brings. Let your inner child play and have some light-hearted fun.
Be original!
Create a new story. Seek the magic and be ready to receive it. What would John Lennon have to say about that?
Ever upward!
